2025 has been a packed year for the Opera Nova Project. From recitals to masterclasses and opera scenes, from a summer academy to a fully staged opera, the students have covered a diverse and challenging curriculum.
We engaged some top-level guest tutors from home and abroad, affording our students the opportunity to learn from some of the most prominent names in the industry.
Emma Bell, Clare Debono, Andre Morsch, Joyce Fieldsend, Hedwig Fassbender, Paul McNamara and Adrian Kelly delivered vocal masterclasses. Local tutors Christopher Gatt, Chiara Hyzler, Pia Zammit, Emma Loftus, Talitha Dimech and Pia Vassallo covered acting, public speaking, dance, make-up and mindfulness.
Summer saw ONP host their first international summer academy. Joined by renowned tutors Janis Kelly and James Pearson, the week-long course ended with a stage recital at Teatru Manoel.
In September ONP staged their first full-length opera- Mozart’s Magic Flute. A wonderful collaboration with the Fames Institute resulted in a celebration of emerging talent. Directed by Denise Mulholland, coached by Gillian Zammit and conducted by Philip Walsh the opera played to sold out houses and garnered excellent reviews.
Our second academic year is well under way. As always, the focus is firmly on learning, and the students have worked with several guest tutors in preparation for their recital of French art song and operatic arias.
